Excavating an in-ground pool

Before beginning construction of an in-ground pool the contractor will need sufficient access for construction equipment. After preparing a sufficient access way to the heavy construction equipment, the contractor needs to lay out the exact site of the pool for the excavation.

Building concrete pools

Once excavation is complete the re-enforcing bars are laid, the plumbing system is positioned, these pipes will be covered with concrete when it is applied. The electrical wiring is also installed at this time. The concrete is sprayed on and hand-troweled into shape. After the concrete walls are ready the finishing process begins. Usually, the top portion of the pool wall is lined with tiles rather than plaster. After the tile has been added, the next step is to install the coping which is the layer of material that forms a transition between the pool and the surrounding deck, the final step is to plaster the walls. The mixture must be blended carefully so the pool has a consistent appearance from one area to another.

Building Vinyl lined pools

After excavation is completed the perimeter  walls are filled with concrete to form footings. Sidewalls made of aluminum, fiberglass, plastic or other materials can be erected around perimeter. The plumbing for the main drains, skimmers, return inlets and automatic cleaners is installed on the walls exterior with an electrical system. A vinyl lined pool includes a continuous piece of vinyl to create a water tight seal.

Building fiberglass pools

When the excavation is finished, the electrical system and rough plumbing go in, the bottom of the whole is sprayed with sand, using a crane the installer lifts the shell and puts it in place. Once the shell is positioned correctly, the final plumbing and electrical connections are made. Finally the pool is filled with water at the same time it is backfilled with a mix of sand and water.
