Shutoff valves

Shutoff valves will stop liquids or gasses at a certain point along a pipe line. It is ideal to have a shutoff valve for every plumbing fixture in your house. It can help you isolate a certain fixture in case of a malfunction, if it needs service, or even in an emergency. These valves can be located in the vicinity of the fixture, or concentrated in one place in the house, like the basement (make sure you have tags on each valve to know what it controls). If you cannot afford a valve for each fixtures, do it for the crucial ones like the washing machine, refrigerator ice maker, and dish washer.
