Kitchen Remodeling
Island or peninsula

Islands and peninsulas increase efficiency in the kitchen and also let people prepare, cook, and clean up while looking out into the room, rather than against the wall. They are used for meal preparation, a snack bar, and even sometimes as a buffet for setting out self service meals during a party. An island is most commonly used in U-shaped and L-shaped kitchens, it shortens the distance between work centers and direct traffic outside the main work core, It is recommended to leave at least 42 inches of walk space on all sides of the island.

In a peninsula, one short end attaches at a right angle to a wall or a bank of cabinets unlike an island, It does not require as much floor place as an island, but if floor space is available in your kitchen and you run out of wall space, the peninsula may be the perfect solution. It is common to install a cook top or a small sink in the island or peninsula. It will also be wise to place an electrical outlet in the island for small appliances.
