The Water Heater Story
One of the most crucial parts of running a home is hot water. Think for a moment about the various uses for hot water in the average home. Generally, people use it for the following purposes:
- Bathing and showering
- Washing the dishes
- Mopping floors
- General cleaning work
Even though you could use cold water for any of these tasks, the end result would not be as good. Hot water washes away bacteria more efficiently, and in the case of bathing it would be quite unhealthy to use cold, unheated water.
For this reason, you need an efficient water heating system that will heat the water properly and will not cost you the earth. There are various options at your disposal. Here are a few:
Solar heating. This will obviously only work for you if you are in a sunny country. Once the system has been fitted, solar power is pretty inexpensive to run. It only requires sunlight and will not run you up any heating bills. The downside of it is that in the winter or on cloudy days you will not get much hot water. You also have to wait till enough water in the tank is heated to really benefit from it.
Hot water tank – This can provide lovely hot water, but the downside of it is that the water can run out easily. There is also the added factor of having to wait ages till it heats the water once again, not to mention the high electricity bills that such a system incurs.
The tankless water heating system – This involves the use of a heating system where the water is warmed up as it is used, rather than inside a tank. The great advantage of this system is that it saves electricity (or gas, which is often used for such systems) because it is not heating up a large quantity of water over a space of time. Instead, this system functions on demand. The other great thing about it, of course, is that by using it you eliminate the problem of running out of hot water in the middle of showering your kids. There’s no annoying wait for the water to heat up. It’s right there, when and where you want it.
From the above, it would appear that the tankless water heating system is the most efficient. It saves money, there is no wait, and you can use it all year round regardless of the weather.
There is a variety of tankless water heaters on the market. Some are even sophisticated enough to provide central heating in your home. The tankless water heater is also fairly compact in size and can be fitted on the outside wall of your home. This saves space and at the same time it is a much safer away of running heater because, if anything were to go wrong, at least it is on the outside of your home rather than within.
So when you are looking at water heaters for your home, take all of the above points into consideration and find out whether you can get hold of a tankless water heater near you.
