Energy-Free "Daylighting" Delivered With A SunPipe®

(HIT) - While they can’t exactly bottle and sell real sunlight, one innovative mid-American company has found a way to harness and deliver it. Using reflective pipes up to 40 feet in length, Greg Miller, owner-inventor of The Sun Pipe Company Inc. in Elgin, Illinois, has been helping homes and business bring in free natural light for more than a decade.

The Sun Pipe is an extremely simple and effective “Daylighting” product. It will deliver every bit of light the sky has to offer … even on cloudy days.

The company’s origin could perhaps be described as a kind of “ultimate pipe dream”—as  Greg and an uncle worked out a plan to brighten the kitchen without the use of a traditional skylight. Using near-optic quality lenses, Miller’s product collects and “pipes” sunlight down highly-polished, silver-lined tubes installed in your roof. “There are no moving parts to wear out,” says Miller. “No wiring needed and no electricity used. A SunPipe® isn’t energy-efficient. It’s energy-free.”

Instead of just putting a window on your roof and letting the sun shine in, the super-reflective pipe reflects daylight from above your roof, through your attic space to a ceiling mounted diffuser. SunPipe® helps keep homes and businesses cool in summer because only diffuse light enters rooms. The use of an airtight seal on ceiling diffusers, additionally helps room stay warm in the winter.

Besides the obvious benefit in energy efficiency and savings, natural light adds a unique dimension to every decorating scheme, opening up possibilities for using previously unusable space and design emphasis.

“Daylight doesn’t just brighten a room,” according to Miller. “It makes a room come alive!”

With time spent outdoors at an all-time low, energy costs at all-time highs, and environmental concerns on the minds of many, now might be the perfect time to discover the benefits of solar tube lighting.

SunPipe® is available today in three diameters: A 9" diameter SunPipe-9 lights-up a 10 x 10 room, a SunPipe-13 lights a 16 x 16 room and a SunPipe-21 lights a 20 x 20 room.

For the modest cost of $300 to $700, depending on the length of pipe needed you can illuminate a space with minimal impact on the structural and insullative integrity of the building. SunPipe® is sold through contractors, handymen and small independent retailers. See http://www.sunpipe.com  or call toll-free 1-800-844-4786.
