The main color in the southwest design is rustic colors like different shades of brown or bronze, and red. You can incorporate these colors in many ways. When decorating with a southwest decor in the kitchen, the main focus is on the accessories so there are not major changes that need to be made. However, you do need to make sure that your colors all blend together. Even though you are sticking to the basic shades, it is still not an easy task to blend them together. Accessorizing on the walls

The main characteristics of a southwest decor is using cactus, moose, deer, buffalo, bear, cattle skulls, and a bucking horse. You can also use anything that deals with a rodeo theme. You can incorporate any of these into your wall and accenting it with neutral colors.

Accessorizing on the floors

When it comes to accessorizing the floors you need to add enough color to balance the look with the walls and accessories. You can accessorize by placing brown rugs, white rugs, or southwestern rugs that use a blend of colors and designs in the decor. These rugs are also great to hang on the wall to complete the look.

You can have a neutral color floor; stone, linoleum, or tile and then accent it with your area rugs. This is the best way to create the right look on your floor. If you can’t decide on a particular color for your floor choose black and white. These colors blend in great with the southwest look.

Area rugs can be used to highlight a focal point in the room, like in front of the china cabinet or place it under the dinner table. Rugs can be for comfort, style, or accents. When using an area rug for comfort, place it where you will stand the most. In the kitchen, this is usually around the sink area or the counter where you will prepare food at more often. When area rugs are used for style you simply need to place them where you need the most style. For example, directly in front of or underneath something that gives your kitchen a southwest design.
