Making your Guests Comfortable in a Guest Room

Having guests spend the night can be an exciting, but somewhat nerve wracking time.  Whether guests are new to your home or have stayed over before, making your guests comfortable in the guest room is always a top concern.  The inexpensive and easy ideas below will create a warm, welcoming guest room environment and make your guests feel right at home.

Privacy

The number one concern for guest comfort is the guest's privacy.  If the guest room is solely used as a guest space, this is not difficult to do.  However, if the guest room is also the home office, workout room or craft space, it can be a bit more challenging.  To make guests feel like their privacy is valued and will not be compromised, plan on suspending other work or crafting activities in that space until the visit is over.  This is not difficult to do for guests staying only one night, but for those spending a longer period of time, it may mean that the laptop and any necessary supplies need to be moved from the room.  It may be a slight hassle, but your guests will cherish the uninterrupted privacy.

 Bedding

It does not matter if the bed is a daybed, queen size bed or a blow-up air mattress, if the bedding is comfortable, guests will sleep well.  Daybeds and full sized beds have the advantage of actual mattresses, whereas, an air-mattress will do much better with a comfortable feather bed or padding beneath the sheets.  Purchase good quality sheets that are soft and comfortable to the touch.  Although they may cost more initially, they will last for many years, as they are only used when guests come to stay.  Comfortable pillows, a warm, soft comforter and an extra throw blanket will all make guests feel relaxed in the guest room.

 Attention to Detail

The caring is in the details, and that is especially true in the guest room.  Take the time to set up a basket of toiletry essentials for newly arriving guests.  Place a small vase of fresh cut flowers on a nightstand along with a magazine of interest.  Make the guest feel special, by including little touches that mean a lot.  One of the nicest and easiest ways to bring a smile to a guest's face is to place a framed picture of her or her family on a small table, nightstand or shelf.  If you have a few guests who frequently come to visit, place pictures for each of them in the same frame, one behind the other, and switch them for each guest.  The personal touch will truly be appreciated.

Making you guests comfortable in the guest room does not require a lot of work.  The key is to create a comfortable bed in a private setting with a few personal touches.  Guests may not admit that they are anxious about staying overnight, but the time you take to show them that their comfort and presence are valued will make them feel right at home.  When your guests feel comfortable, so will you.
