Get more power in the shower

(ARA) - Sometimes it's the products we use every day that we think about the least. Your daily shower, for instance.  Consumers on average take a 13-minute shower, according to a research study by Moen Incorporated. These few minutes are often the only time during the day to relax and unwind, so wouldn't you want a shower to give you the satisfaction you deserve?

Here are a few important things to know about showerheads to help ensure that you are getting the most power in your shower.

Functionality: There are many choices to suit any showering need: wall-mount or handheld, single- or multi-function, standard or rainshower. Can't decide on just one? Products such as the Refresh Three-Way Shower Combination from Moen feature both a multi-setting handheld showerhead and a nine-inch rainshower - all in one. (Available at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $59.99.)

Installation: Don't put off buying a new showerhead because you're afraid you can't install it. Showerhead installation is a simple process, usually completed in 10 to 15 minutes, with very basic tools. Here are some essential installation tips:

* Unscrew the existing showerhead from the shower arm.

* Remove any old thread seal tape and, before applying new tape, be sure to thoroughly review product instructions.

* By hand, screw the new showerhead onto the shower arm. Use a wrench to tighten the new showerhead. If installing a handheld version, first screw the handheld bracket to the shower arm and tighten with a wrench. Then, attach the hose and handheld shower to the handheld bracket.

Sustainability: Moen research shows that 37 percent of consumers want to conserve water, but don't want to sacrifice shower performance. Many new Moen showerhead models, such as Nurture (available at Lowe's), will reduce water usage up to 30 percent while still maintaining performance. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced the first certifications of new WaterSense labeling criteria specifically for showering products, with all Moen showerheads expected to earn EPA certification.

Finishes: A variety of on-trend finishes are available today to fit with every bathroom decor, from the most popular chrome and brushed nickel, to the latest finishes including Mediterranean Bronze.

Cleaning: While it helps you keep clean, it's recommended to also clean your showerhead approximately once per year. Simply remove your showerhead and soak it in vinegar and water for several hours to remove any calcium build-up.

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) certification: To ensure you have the safest showerhead, look for ASSE-compliant showerheads, which offer anti-scald protection and temperature regulation.

With these few tips, you can make the most of your showering experience and get more power in the shower. For more information on Refresh Three-Way Shower Combination or other showerheads from Moen, visit moen.com.
